I am often asked what it means to be a "Certified Professional Photographer"...

Following is the official description:

Professional Photographers of America is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals. CPPs must complete a written examination, finish an image evaluation and adhere to a strict code of conduct. Certification must be renewed on a periodic basis, ensuring continued confidence in the professionalism of Certified Professional Photographers.

My personal experience began when I decided 2 years ago to start prepping for the certification. I studied and studied, then I attended a 3 day course at East Coast School in NC, where I took the comprehensive written exam. Being a former school teacher, I still cannot believe I went back and changed 3 answers, which I do know the rule, to never go back and to go with your gut. I jumped in my car following the exam and looked up the answers... ugh! All 3 wrong but fortunately still passed the exam. (wiping the brow)

The next step was to complete the image submission portion to get fully certified. I thought I had it...uh, no! Lesson learned. I did not pass on the first try.

After finally achieving the goal of becoming a Certified Professional Photographer, I am proud to be able to claim this title. It was not easy, but I am beyond thankful for the feedback that I received during submission. It has helped me to improve overall as a photographer.

My next goal is to start working towards my Master's and Craftsman's Degrees... I strive to be the best I can be and my goal is to always be better than I was yesterday!

I encourage all aspiring photographers to pursue the CPP designation and beyond.
