It is finally time for your high school senior photo shoot! This is your moment to shine, capture memories, and, of course, make your friends take an extra peek at your Instagram-worthy shots that are like no other. At JollyJenPhotography, we want you to have the best experience possible. Here are 20 things you should do to prepare for your shoot—no pressure, just pure fun (with a side of planning). If you are wondering what to wear, feel free to click here Fab Fashion for Females and follow us. We are always adding new ideas for "What to Wear".
1. Choose Outfits That Scream "You"
Pick outfits that reflect your personality. If you are a jeans-and-hoodie type, rock it. If you prefer sequins and heels, go for it. The goal is to feel like the main character in your own movie, not someone else’s awkward extra.
2. Avoid Brand Logos (Unless You Are Getting Paid)
Logos can be distracting. Unless Nike is sponsoring your shoot, try to avoid shirts that turn you into a walking billboard.
3. Plan for Layers
Bring a few different outfits to change things up. Layers add dimension to photos and give you options without a full-on wardrobe change in a public park.
4. Get Your Beauty Sleep (Seriously)
No one can Photoshop out crankiness. A good night’s sleep will help you look fresh and feel amazing.
5. Hydrate Like It Is Your Job
Drink water. Lots of it. Your skin will thank you, and you will avoid that dreaded “I just ran a marathon” look.
6. Schedule Haircuts Wisely
A fresh cut is great, but give it at least a week to settle. No one wants “just stepped out of the salon” helmet hair.
7. Test Your Makeup (Even if You Never Wear It)
Even if you are a “just mascara” person, a little makeup can help define your features in photos. Try it out beforehand to avoid any surprise clown moments. Another option would be to schedule hair and makeup so you will can just relax and feel like a rockstar!
8. Skip the Spray Tan (Trust Us)
Orange might be a school color, but it is not a great look for your photos. If you must, tan at least a week in advance to avoid streaks or that charming carrot glow. **** AVOID TAN LINES. There may additional fees to remove them so before your shoot, if you are in the sun, lower your straps or wear a bandeau.
9. Get Those Nails Done
Chipped nail polish can steal the spotlight. A simple clear coat or neutral shade works wonders. And yes, guys, this tip is for you too—clean nails are a must.
10. Bring Props That Make Sense
Props can add personality to your photos, but choose wisely. Your skateboard? Yes. Your entire drum set? Maybe not.
11. Practice Your Smile (Without Feeling Awkward)
In front of a mirror, practice smiling with your eyes. It feels weird, but it prevents that “deer in headlights” look when the camera is on you.
12. Do Not Forget Your Feet
Your shoes might end up in some shots. Make sure they are clean and fit the vibe of your outfits. No flip-flops with a ballgown, please.
13. Pack Essentials (Like a Survival Kit)
Include hair ties, bobby pins, lip balm, and a brush. Throw in a snack too—hunger and smiling do not mix.
14. Know Your Angles (Instagram Training Pays Off)
If you have a favorite side, let us know. Your selfie skills will finally come in handy.
15. Bring a Hype Squad (Or Just Your Mom)
A friend, sibling, or very enthusiastic parent can help you relax and have fun. Or if you prefer to surprise everyone with your images, we will still make it happen and have some laughs along the way for sure.
16. Skip the Glasses (Or Prepare for Glare)
Glasses can cause glare, so consider contacts if you can. If not, we will work our magic to minimize reflections. SUNGLASSES ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!
17. Show Up Early (But Not Too Early)
Give yourself time to park, breathe, and touch up. Showing up late means less time for the fun shots.
18. Eat Something (But Not Spaghetti)
Nobody wants to be hangry. A light meal beforehand is smart—just avoid anything messy or garlic-heavy.
19. Trust Your Photographer (That Is Us!)
We have done this a million times. Trust our guidance, even if it feels a bit silly in the moment.
20. Have Fun (For Real)
This is your time to shine. Relax, smile, and embrace the awkward in-between moments—they often make the best shots!
